Montgomery CERT members are required
to successfully complete
MCFRS CERT Class
All
Montgomery CERT members are required to take the following two courses
Entry level first responders &
disaster workers including volunteer personnel at all levels requires:
- IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
- IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS)

NIMS ICS 300 and ICS 400
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) is responsible for
national guidelines for incident management training at all jurisdictional
levels. To meet federal requirements, the County has identified specific
positions in each department and the required NIMS training.
This 4-day course
is required for specific management positions that will
perform in a management capacity or
assume a supervisory role in expanding incidents,
utilizing Area Command or multi
agency coordination system within the County. The NIMS
Command and Management component supports the management of expanding incidents.
Course Objectives and Topic Areas:

Describe
how the NIMS Command and Management component supports the management of
expanding incidents.
-
Describe the incident/event
management process for expanding incidents and supervisors as prescribed by
the Incident Command System.
-
Implement the incident
management process on a simulated Type 3 incident.
-
Develop an Incident Action
Plan for a simulated incident.
-
ICS
Fundamentals Review for Command and General Staff
-
Define the advantages
of Unified Command and list the kinds of situations which may call for a
Unified Command organization.
-
List
the major steps involved in the planning process.
-
Describe types of agencies, policies, guidelines and agreements that
influence management of incident or event activities.
-
Describe the primary guidelines and responsibilities of the Command and
General Staff positions.
-
Describe the purposes and responsibilities of agency representatives or
technical specialists, reporting relationships and how they can be
effectively used within the incident organization.
-
Describe the process for transfer of command.
At the completion
of this course, each participant will be required to complete a written exam
in the class.

A team of certified instructors from the Departments of Fire & Rescue, Police
and HHS will conduct the training.
Course Dates:
Please select one course from the two being offered. Attendance is required
for the first two and ˝ days for ICS300, all four days are required for ICS 300
and ICS 400 certification.
