A message from Anne Culver - VP Montgomery County CERT

Subject: CERT Committee Work
Date: 9/19/2006

Hello CERT Members!
Sorry I missed the October meeting but I was with you all in spirit! I heard from someone who was in the class next door (the CERT Basic) that you all were laughing, applauding, and generally rowdy, so I guess you all were enjoying yourselves.
I would like to start working with the committees, so if you have been “volunteered” by your committee to lead it, please send me your name and the names and email addresses of people on your committee. I have most everyone’s email address anyway, so if you don’t know it, I will probably have it.
If you are not on a committee and would like to be, please let me know that, too. There are some people who have volunteered recently and I hope I have responded to all of them.
We will work up a task list and timetable for each committee, so we can all have the joy of accomplishment. I have some tasks already for some of the groups. The CERT officers (Tom, Rafael, Bob Wirth, and I) will each have a few committees to coach, so as not to overextend the span of control (remember your ICS!).
Thanks again for all your work. You are a great group of people and this is a lot of fun for me – and I hope for you, too.
All the best,
Anne

A message from Anne Culver - VP Montgomery County CERT
Hello you all!
As of now, Montgomery County CERT is stood down from the rain and flooding event that started last Monday.
At 0500 on June 30, the leafleting activity based out of Earl B Wood Middle School was concluded. Thanks to all who came out to perform this important duty, our sincere appreciation and thanks for a great effort. You all performed totally professionally and with wonderful good nature, despite being tired and overworked, and you all impressed the heck out of the county police!
As you probably know, the Needwood Lake area evacuation order has been lifted and residents are almost all home now. Later this morning, the shelter at Wheaton HS will close.
Thanks to all of you who responded in the field in various areas and at the shelters, and also to those who supported the field effort, sending out messages to keep us all posted, making calls, etc. Also we appreciate those who stood by ready to come in on schedules throughout the week and weekend. Your helpful and courteous actions at the shelter(s) helped hundreds of people at a very difficult time. If you were not able to come out with us this week, we look forward to working with you in the future.
A couple of housekeeping items:
- If you were activated BEFORE the formal sign-in/sign-out roster was established, please send your work hours, including from the time you left home to the time you returned, to Anne.
- And please, while your experience is fresh, make some notes on what went well, what didn't, and what are your practical suggestions for improvement (for CERT or anyone else). You may either email them to Anne or bring them to the regular monthly CERT meeting, July 13 at 7 pm (or 1900 hours, as we all know it now).
The next meeting will consist of a facilitated After Action Review discussion, and also an interactive discussion of the work we have ahead of us, particularly committee development and tasking based in what the membership advises and what the county needs.
It's up to all of us to continue to improve Mo.Co. CERT– we have added to our "resume" this week in grand fashion!
Thanks to all of you.
Anne
